Freshman Hodiste's hit in 8th sends No. 5 Dulaney to 4A state softball elite eight

Isabelle Hodiste's two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning, lifted No. 5 Dulaney High to a 3-2 victory over ninth-ranked Bel Air in the Class 4A North Region Section I softball final Wednesday in Baltimore County.

The Lions (17-2 overall) will take on Montgomery County's Sherwood in the North final Friday afternoon. Sherwood, ranked No. 6 in the District region by the Washington Post, has won the last five 4A state titles.

Dulaney, which hasn't won a state title, is a win away from its first state final four since 2003 thanks to Hodiste, a freshman catcher, who brought home Tegan Bowen and Sarah Musolf. The Bobcats (14-6) grabbed a 2-1 advantage in the top of eighth as Jill Kozak scored on a throwing error.

Bel Air led 1-0 in the third inning on McKenna Rieswig's RBI fly out. Dulaney pulled even in the 6th on Akirra Pullen's solo homerun. Akirra Pullen, a junior, got the win on the mound.
